The truth of the alleged defamatory statement, even if made with knowledge of falsity, is a complete defense to defamation. However, even if the statement is true, the person who has made the statement may still be found to have committed invasion of privacy, breach of contract, or misconduct, as well as other wrongs depending on how the information contained within the statement was acquired and whether the person had authority to share that information.

The statute of limitation for initiating and reporting an allegation of defamation shall be one year from the date the alleged statement was published or made. [Ord. 17-22, approved 3/14/22.]
